Red Cross volunteers helping out with Florence disaster relief

She recommends that people send money donations to the Red Cross if they would like to help but are not physically able to volunteer.

Hodge said he has closed his business and will leave it closed until the threat of severe weather has passed.

"Most people seem a little more stressed than normal", he said. "Life-threatening storm surge flooding, catastrophic flash flooding and prolonged significant river flooding are still expected", the National Hurricane Center tweeted on Thursday, leading up to Florence. "So I love what I do because I get to work with people".

The Diaper Bank of North Carolina is collecting Hurricane Florence donations in order to provide financial support and diapers to families displaced by the storm.

Apple routinely supports relief efforts following natural disasters and usually accepts Red Cross donations from customers through the App Store or iTunes Store. You can donate online or text "Florence" to 20222.

Blood donations are encouraged too.

The funds will support disaster response, including support for Red Cross shelters, volunteer training and mobilization of volunteers.

Volunteers and supplies are needed to help with the animals, including dog food, fleece blankets, towels, paper towels, bowls and cleaning fluids.

A crisis response page has been set up to allow Facebook users to alert others if they are in the affected area.

We encourage eligible donors in parts of the country unaffected by the storm to give blood or platelets to help ensure a sufficient blood supply.

Dozens of Red Cross volunteers from the Arizona/New Mexico/El Paso region, including 27 from the Greater Phoenix chapter, are on the ground in areas that have been battered by Hurricane Florence.

Those wanting to donate can visit to find the nearest blood drive.

Anderson's job in Myrtle Beach is over, but she is preparing for her next assignment in another storm zone in the Carolinas.
