Thandie Newton combined the divine with the profane when she gave her acceptance speech after winning Outstanding Supporting Actress for her work as the tenacious Maeve in HBO's Westworld at the 2018 Emmy Awards on Monday night.

After the usual litany of thank you's to her coworkers and producers, Newton paid tribute to her daughter, whose birthday it was, saying, "I get to guide you and love you and protect you, which is my North Star".

After the crowd contained their giggles, she continued, "I am so blessed".

While delivering her acceptance speech, the "Crash" star said: "I don't even believe in God, but I'm gonna thank her tonight". "I am so blessed. But I feel so thrilled for them because I could not have achieved any of it without the costume, the writing, the make-up, the production design, all the elements that go into the work that we do". "I love you so much".

The excited actress also talked about her 18-year-old daughter. "Thank you, thank you for this", she concluded, before walking offstage with The Handmaid's Tale stars Elisabeth Moss and Samira Wiley, who had presented her with the award.
