Fast-forward four years, and California authorities say he and his current girlfriend used their good looks and charm to drug and rape at least two women.

Robicheaux, 38, and Cerissa Laura Riley, 31, are charged with rape by use of drugs, oral copulation by anesthesia or controlled substance, assault with intent to commit sexual offense, and possession of a controlled substance for sale.

Robicheaux was also charged with possession of an assault weapon, and faces a special enhancement of being armed with a firearm during a health and safety code violation.

He said investigators were examining thousands of videos and images on Robicheaux's phone.

Orange County District Attorney Tony Rackauckas said Robicheaux and Riley are believed to have worked in tandem at restaurants and bars to identify their victims.

Robicheaux, of Newport Beach, California, is an orthopaedic surgeon who in 2014 appeared on Online Dating Rituals Of The American Male.

He said Riley and Robicheaux met one woman, 32, at a restaurant in Newport Beach in April 2016.

The alleged victim called police the day after the incident to report the rape and tests proved she had multiple controlled substances in her system. When she became intoxicated, the couple took her to their apartment, authorities said.

The district attorney's office said she woke up and screamed for help until a neighbor called police to the scene. "The reality is that rapists come in all socioeconomic groups, any background", Rackauckas said.

Attorneys Philip Cohen and Scott Borthwick issued a joint statement on behalf of Riley and Robicheaux denying the allegations of nonconsensual sex. Officials say they will be formally charged next month.

"Dr Robicheaux and Ms Riley believe that such allegations do a disservice to, and dangerously undermine, the true victims of sexual assault, and they are eager to have the proper spotlight shed on this case in a public trial".

The attorneys said none of the allegations involve Robicheaux's medical practice or patients.

"None of the allegations in this matter relate to or concern Dr. Robicheaux's medical practice or patients in any way", the attorneys said.

Riley and Robicheaux each paid $100,000 bail last week when they were arrested. They will be arraigned October 25.

It is reported investigators have found hundreds of videos of Robicheaux showing women "in various states of undress, consciousness and being assaulted".

Videos show women who "appear to be highly intoxicated beyond the ability to consent or resist, and they're barely responsive to the defendant's sexual advances", according to Rackauckas.

The couple attended several popular festivals across the country, including Burning Man, and the prosecutor said there may be "many more" victims.

During investigations police found videos on the couple's phones that suggest they could have taken advantage of up to 1,000 women. He did not say whether the same women were seen in multiple clips.

"Based on this evidence, we believe that there might be many unidentified victims out there", he said.

The district attorney showed reporters video of Robicheaux appearing in the Bravo reality TV show, "Online Dating Rituals of the American Male" and photos of the two suspects in various locations.
