Having spent the last twelve years or so being accused of not understanding the whole concept of online gaming, Nintendo has finally launched its big pitch to get with the times with its latest console success, the Switch.

So households with multiple Switches (or those that want to play their friend's games on their own consoles) might want to consider shelling out for the subscription. You'll be able to use both controllers to play couch co-op in most of the NES games that come included in Switch Online.

The eShop maintenance is over, and now the games begin. "When using downloadable software on a non-primary console, your game will pause if your Nintendo Account is used to access downloadable software on any other Nintendo Switch console", Nintendo writes.

The Nintendo Entertainment System is one of four new titles, alongside Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Mario Tennis Aces, and ARMS, that now have official voice chat support inside the Switch Online app. You can only have one primary console at a time, and when you add your Nintendo Account to other consoles, they won't be activated as your primary one unless you've already deactivated your main Switch. Moreover, you always need to be connected to the Internet to play a game on a non-primary console. Nintendo breaks down this interaction in the gallery of images you see above.
