3 killed in shooting at Maryland Rite Aid center

The shooter was captured and is being treated at a hospital, Hartford County Sheriff Jeffrey Gahler said in a news conference.

The situation was "still fluid", the Harford County sheriff's office said on Twitter.

"We are closely monitoring the horrific shooting", Gov. Larry Hogan tweeted.

'Our prayers are with all those impacted, including our first responders. She described it as a support facility adjacent to a larger building.

"We don't know the number at this stage, but we do know from social media that there are lots of people who are very anxious and very worried family members of people who work in this area".

Three people have been reported dead after a mass shooting at a distribution center in Maryland, police said.

One woman told WBAL that her mom works at a building in the area and she became anxious after not immediately hearing from her.

She was a temporary employee at the facility, the sheriff said.

The Harford County Sheriff's Office said the shooter has died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The Harford Fire Department tweeted that there were "multiple victims" and that local police were "searching for suspect".

The Rite Aid center, located among other warehouses in an industrial park, has almost 1,000 employees, company spokesman Pete Strella said.

"It's really just usually very calm, and this is the most chaotic I've ever seen it", she added. "It's usually just a really sleepy place".

Deputies were dispatched to the scene shortly after 9am Thursday morning, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation and ATF responded to assist with the "active shooter situation" shortly afterwards.

Aberdeen is roughly 30 miles away from Baltimore.

Also on Wednesday, at least four people were wounded when a software worker shot his fellow employees at a business near Madison, Wisconsin, officials said. Both the shooters in the latter two incidents were killed by police.
