Production is now underway on Todd Phillips' upcoming origin movie centered on everybody's favorite Clown Prince of Crime, The Joker.

Phillips has been doing an A+ job teasing out "Joker" photos so far - just enough - so hopefully he keeps this up without going overboard by the time the film releases in theaters on October 4th, 2019. The entire clip shows Phoenix as a normal person who is revealed to be the creepy villainous clown who terrorizes Gotham City. The make-up looks a bit more clownish-Ceasar Romero than psychotic-Heath Ledger, and definitely different from whatever Jared Leto was.

In the screen test shared on Instagram Phoenix stares straight into the camera, cracks a sinister smile before the camera flashes to him wearing the trademark clown makeup.

The Joker will serve as the first entry of DC's new DC Dark line of films, which will reportedly not be a part of the poorly received DC Extended Universe (DCEU).

"Phillips" Joker movie is reportedly inspired by Martin Scorsese's The King of Comedy and Taxi Driver.

The snippet, which is set to the Guess Who's Laughing, ends when Phoenix's fully made up face suddenly becomes serious.

The video was actually a short camera test for the much-awaited origin film, for one of the comic book world's iconic villains. Warner Bros. describes it as a gritty character study and a broader cautionary tale.

We know that, in addition to Phoenix, the movie will also star Brett Cullen, Zazie Beetz, Frances Conroy, Marc Maron, and Robert De Niro.
