The price of petrol in Mumbai rose by 9 paise and now stands at Rs 89.69 per litre in the city.

Petrol and diesel prices have been rising nearly daily since mid-August, because of rising crude oil prices and a weak rupee.

In the financial capital of the country, petrol was sold at Rs 89.80, up from Rs 89.69 per litre on Friday, data on the Indian Oil Corp's website showed. A litre of petrol was being retailed at a price of Rs 82.32 in Delhi, Rs 89.69 in Mumbai, Rs 85.58 in Chennai and Rs 84.16 in Kolkata after the latest revision, according to a price notification of state-owned fuel retailers. Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Dharmendra Pradhan had blamed global factors for the hike in the prices of petroleum products.

In contrast to petrol, prices of diesel were unchanged on Saturday for the fourth consecutive day.

Further, sector experts say, the high excise duty in the country has also added to the high prices.

Diesel prices in Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai were unchanged at Rs 73.87, Rs 75.72, Rs 78.42 and Rs 78.10 per litre, respectively. The reduction came in to effect from September 18.
