The series charted the journey of Steven Avery from being exonerated of one murder by DNA evidence, to being convicted of another, the murder of photographer Teresa Halbach.

Almost three years after "Making a Murderer" captivated viewers and left many wondering the fate of those convicted in the killing of Teresa Halbach, the true crime docuseries from Netflix is returning for a second season.

I wish I shared their faith in Avery, but instead I wouldn't be surprised if we got another muddled season where the intentions are good, but the story can't support it. The series leaned heavily on the theory that Avery and Dassey were innocent, and being railroaded by the justice system. Now, three years later, we will continue this harrowing true crime thriller as the case continues. Over the course of 10 new episodes, Making a Murderer Part 2 provides an in-depth look at the high-stakes post-conviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.

They introduce viewers to Kathleen Zellner, Steven's post-conviction lawyer, who fights to prove that he was wrongly convicted of the murder of Teresa Halbach and win his freedom.

After he was released, Avery found himself at the center of a murder investigation that looped in his nephew Brendan Dassey who was later convicted along with his uncle and both are now behind bars serving time.
