Eden Hazard has revealed that he voted for Real Madrid and Croatia superstar Luka Modric to win the Best FIFA Men's Player award.

The Champions League overhead kicks of former Real Madrid teammates Gareth Bale and Ronaldo were two of the most memorable goals of the past year - but came up short of an award. He has adjudged the best player at the tournament in Russian Federation.

"It was an unbelievable season, the best season in my life", said Modric.

Deschamps, who became just the third man to win the World Cup as a player and coach, beat off competition from Dalic and his former France team-mate Zinedine Zidane, who won a third consecutive Champions League title with Real Madrid before resigning in June.

Modric is arguably in pole position for the main award after winning the Golden Ball at this summer's World Cup in Russian Federation where Croatia finished runners-up.

Messi, meanwhile, claimed four Ballons d'Or as well as one FIFA World Player of the Year honour.

The 32-year-old, who now plays her club football for Orlando in the United States, has scored 110 goals for Brazil.

The award were presented at this season's Champions League group-stage draw.

Salah received the Puskas award for the best goal, for his effort against Everton in the Premier League at Anfield last December.

Diego Forlan felt they both should have made an appearance, despite not winning the top award.

The best goalkeeper prize is to be contested by France captain Hugo Lloris, Denmark's Kasper Schmeichel and Belgium's Thibaut Courtois, whose World Cup heroics earned him a move to Madrid from Chelsea.

Modric's win breaks the Lionel Messi-Ronaldo duopoly of the last 10 years and it follows his player of the tournament prize at Russian Federation 2018 and UEFA player of the year accolade last month.

The awards were held for the third year running after football's governing body ended its six-year association with the Ballon d'Or.

The nominees were voted for by national team coaches (25%), national team captains (25%), select media representatives (25%) and via an online vote (25%).
