Lakers To Start Rajon Rondo At Beginning Of The Season

"Luke Walton told me today that Rajon Rondo will be the Lakers' starting point guard to start the year".

And while some speculated that the four-time All-Star would push Ball for the starting job (Los Angeles Times headline: "Can Rajon Rondo give Lonzo Ball a run for his money at point guard?), Rondo has publicly been supportive of Ball". "Lonzo told me he was just cleared today for full contact practice, but Walton had already said that won't include scrimmaging".

The Lakers will open their season with a road game against the Portland Trail Blazers on October 18, followed by their home-opener against the Houston Rockets on the 20th. He averaged 10.2 points, 7.2 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game in that span, but his lack of strength - coupled with his awkward shot - forced him into erratic play from time to time around the rim and on the perimeter.

Rondo being named the starter for the beginning of the season isn't earth-shattering news, as Ball is working his way back from a summer knee surgery.

In the final weeks before he would report for his first Lakers training camp, Rajon Rondo, a notoriously torrential personality and sufferer of few fools, got a lesson in something he admits is not his strong suit.

"Whatever role coach gives me, whatever role this team wants me to play, I'll play it", Rondo told reporters. "Whether it's starting 15 games and getting benched for eight, I've been through it all in my career".

The gist of it was at the end of the day, no one can define who you are but yourself.

"I just think I got a lot stronger. Intangibles, obviously be a leader, hold guys accountable and bring a championship mentality".
