The Philadelphia Flyers hockey team has a new mascot, but its freaky appearance and back story have Twitter users asking, "What the puck?" He is absolutely terrifying.

The Flyers welcomed Gritty into the fold during an event at the Please Touch Museum, in front of over 600 students from the Philadelphia School District.

As you can imagine, social media has lost their mind over the new frightening mascot. Think Montreal Canadiens mascot "Youppi!" after a triple espresso and four cans of Red Bull, and you get the idea.

His father was a "bully", so naturally he has some of those tendencies - talented but feisty, a fierce competitor, known for his agility given his size.

The name "Gritty" stems from his "possessing an attitude so similar to the team he follows", the Flyers said.

According to the Flyers website, Gritty is a lifelong Flyers fan who enjoys both snow from the Zamboni and hot dogs.

Well, the Flyers explained that recent construction at their arena disturbed his secret hideout "forcing him to show his face publicly for the first time".

Some people saw Gritty's creepy mug and sprang into action with a parody GoFundMe campaign called Euthanize Gritty, the Flyers Mascot. Well, congratulations on a mission accomplished. We need more disgusting, horrifying and sadistic mascots in sports.
