A few weeks before his death, reports surfaced explaining that Troyer had been in hospital for suspected alcohol poisoning.

Troyer died from sequelae of alcohol intoxication in a suicidal manner, per a report from the Los Angeles Coroner's Office obtained by Page Six on Wednesday.

Troyer was most famous for his role as "Mini-Me" in the Austin Powers films, but also had roles in Men In Black and Jingle All The Way, before going on to appear in Celebrity Big Brother and Celebrity Juice.

A statement released by Troyer's family following his death said that Troyer had been battling a "time of adversity", and had recently been baptized.

The statement read: "It is with great sadness and incredibly heavy hearts to write that Verne passed away today". Over the years he's struggled and won, struggled and won, struggled and fought some more, but unfortunately this time was too much. "The family appreciates that they have this time to grieve privately".

It continued: "Depression and Suicide are very serious issues".

Troyer was initially taken to the hospital on April 3, from his home in North Hollywood, for reported alcohol intoxication. You never know what kind of battle someone is going through inside.

He struggled with addiction for years before his death, and spent multiple stints in rehab. "And always know, it's never too late to reach out to someone for help", the post said.

Troyer addressed his current situation at the time in an Instagram post, writing "I'd like to address a very personal situation".

The Baywatch star posted "R.I.P Verne Troyer" along with the image.
