The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Thursday named the final 14-member squad for the first two One Day International (ODI) matches against the West Indies. The five-match ODI series starts on 21 October in Guwahati, before the action shifts to Visakhapatnam, Pune, Mumbai, and Thiruvananthapuram.

"Of course Umesh Yadav is also part of our pool and as we are looking at a workload management strategy".

Prithvi Shaw, who was handed his Test cap at Rajkot, will be keen to add to his debut ton when he takes guard in Hyderabad as well in order to stay in the race to grab an opener's slot for India's four-Test series in Australia, which represents a last chance in 2018 for Virat Kohli's boys to take their formidable home form and excel in overseas conditions.

Ravindra Jadeja, who returned to the ODI setup recently and also scored his maiden Test century in the ongoing series against the Windies, has found a place in the squad. He replaces Dinesh Karthik, who was the backup keeper during the Asia Cup that India clinched last month, for the seventh time overall.

"The quality of the (SG) balls used to be quite high before and I don't understand the reason why it has gone down because Dukes ball is still good quality, Kookaburra is still good quality", Kohli said ahead of the second Test in Hyderabad. Hardik Pandya & Kedar Jadhav, who both picked up injuries during the Asia Cup, continue to be on the sidelines. While Pandya had injured his back, Jadhav had suffered hamstring issues.

Squad for first two ODIs: Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Ambati Rayudu, Manish Pandey, MS Dhoni, Rishabh Pant, Ravindra Jadeja, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Shami, Khaleel Ahmed, Shardul Thakur, KL Rahul.
