The triangle offense is a strategy that uses a center who establishes a spot at the post, a forward at the wing, and a guard at the corner.

After Basketball Hall of Famer and legendary assistant coach Fred "Tex" Winter died Wednesday at the age of 96, former Chicago Bulls star Scottie Pippen took to Twitter to pay tribute to the man who helped Pippen and the Bulls win six titles in the 1990s.

"Never understood why he would allow a coach like me to hang out and learn from him, but, wow, he really impacted my life", said Cone, the most successful coach in the history of the PBA. "Tex used to always try to get me in the game. My condolences to his family".

Upon Jordan's retirement with the Bulls, Winter joined Jackson in Los Angeles, winning three more National Basketball Association titles with the Lakers from 2000 to 2002. He was a consultant with Los Angeles' 2009 title team, and the Lakers also won in 2010.

"Tex Winter was a basketball legend and perhaps the finest fundamental teacher in the history of our game", said Bulls executive vice president of basketball operations John Paxson, a former player under Winter. He was an innovator who had high standards for how basketball should be played and approached everyday. Those of us who were lucky enough to play for him will always respect his devotion to the game of basketball. "His contributions to the Bulls organization will always be remembered".

For Winter's contributions to the game of basketball, he was inducted into numerous hall of fames, most notably the 2011 Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

"We are saddened by the passing of such a legendary coach in Fred "Tex" Winter, who touched almost every level of basketball", Weber said in a statement.

A significant part of his career was spent at the college level, including a five-season run at Northwestern from 1973-1978, which followed his stint as a head coach in Houston.

The news was confirmed by Kansas State University and the Chicago Bulls. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Winter family during this time.

Born Morice Fredrick Winter in 1922 near Wellington, Texas, he grew up in Huntington Park, California, and starred at Oregon State and Southern California in basketball and as a pole vaulter. "However, he left a tremendous mark of achievement at Kansas State, including two Final Fours".
