Huawei unveils AI portfolio to drive deployment across industries

Huawei is expanding its semiconductor business with new AI chips and services.

The four AI platforms are then Resident Voices, which has voice recognition for all citizens of Tianjin; Sensing the City, which uses image recognition across people, places, vehicles, and things "for the objective of fostering harmony for all"; Resident Care, which involves deep learning and correlation for personalised services for citizens; and Enterprise Services, which ensures services availability match their need by applying "multi-dimensional and correlation analysis to clarify the internal relationships of industries in the TEDA district".

The new 7 nanometer Ascend 910 chipset that Huawei unveiled at its annual global partners' conference will service this unit and is meant for data centers that crunch mountains of data. In the consumer market, HiAI will bring true intelligence to our consumer devices, making them smarter than ever. The Ascend series takes Huawei into the hardware segment of the enterprise world, supporting its software and services offerings.

It's a full-stack, all-scenario AI portfolio according to Huawei. "Their unified architecture also makes it easy to deploy, migrate, and interconnect AI applications across different scenarios", Huawei said. Created to build an AI infrastructure covering the end, edge and cloud, the new Atlas includes the terminal-facing Atlas 200 AI accelerator module, the DC-facing Atlas 300 AI accelerator card, the edge-oriented Atlas 500 AI edge station, and the Atlas 800 AI appliance for enterprises.

Reports cite, the new AI chips would be pitting Huawei against some major silicon players like NVIDIA and Qualcomm as the Chinese tech giant establishes a strategy that it hopes would be driving the future growth of the company.

Huawei has a network business, cloud and consumer devices. "When this platform is in place, AI will become a basic skill of all application developers, even all IT workers". Xu said addressing this challenge would require an "AI mindset", meaning providing intelligent, automated and easy-to-use AI platforms, tools, services and education to foster a huge number of data science engineers.

In 2017, it unveiled its first AI chip called the Kirin 970 and followed that up with the Kirin 980 earlier this year. So as technology evolves, many enterprises will thrive with AI technology.
