After the initial report indicated Coogler will direct the Black Panther sequel, a report from Variety indicated the film will not go into production until late 2019 or early 2020, leaving him enough time to take on a smaller project.

Ryan Coogler is returning to Wakanda. Talking about the first part, the film didn't garnered critical acclaim by scoring 97 per cent on Rotten Tomatoes but also turned out to be huge money-spinner by collecting over $ 700 million at the domestic market and $ 1.3 Billion at the global market. Furthermore, actor Chadwick Boseman, and everyone else in the ensemble cast is expected to return to help round out the cast of Wakandans. Perhaps Killmonger could return stronger (and angrier) than ever, or maybe Kraven the Hunter will take a break from terrorizing Spider-Man to prey on Black Panther.

The Coogler-helmed "Black Panther" is Marvel's highest domestic grossing film ever, earning just over $700 million in the USA and $1.3 billion worldwide.

However, when it comes to potential Oscar glory, Disney have made a decision to back just one of these horses, and have put Black Panther forward for Best Picture consideration.

Feige has touted the success of Black Panther since before the film hit theaters, and now that it's become a cultural phenomenon and a box office blockbuster, there was little doubt that he'd want to make a sequel. All these uncertainties and more will remain unanswered until Coogler actually writes the script - but it's good to know that he's officially back in the saddle for the sequel.
