In those days it was Westwood Studios (which was acquired by EA in 1998 and closed down in 2003) that spearheaded the development of the real-time strategy hit.

Vessella wrote: "We've been exploring some exciting ideas regarding remastering the classic PC games, and already have the ball rolling on our first effort to celebrate the upcoming 25th Year Anniversary". The 25 Anniversary is still two years away, giving relatively ample time for the publisher to prepare something.

A Producer at EA, Jim Vessella, broke the news on Reddit, and explained that a remaster - or indeed potentially more than one - could arrive in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the very first Command & Conquer (which happens in 2020 - yes, the original was released in 1995).

Why it matters: Remember the disappointment you felt when EA revealed that the new Command and Conquer game-Rivals-was a mobile title filled with microtransactions? He noted that EA is open to fan feedback as it will "help influence our current thoughts for PC and what comes next".

Update: EA also made this announcement on the OpenRA forums, another major old-school C&C fan-hub.

Having "no micro transactions" has been heavily requested already, to which the producer replied "We will not be adding any". Vessella gave this reply a Gold Star - so make sure you get involved if you want your ideas taken into consideration. Have you been waiting for a remaster?

He added that as a "fan and developer" of the Command & Conquer franchise is just as passionate as any other fan. He continues to work in sport but loves talking all things Xbox, PS4, and PC just as much.
