Debt-laden Air India has been hit by a string of technical glitches and other embarrassing incidents, including staff turning up late for flights, over the years.

A spokesperson for Nanavati Hospital, where the flight attendant was taken, was not immediately available for comment when contacted by AFP. Reports add that the flight - AI 864, a Boeing 777-337 aircraft - was scheduled to take-off at around 7 am.

The incident happened on Air India flight AI 864 operating on Mumbai-Delhi route, according to the airline source. The flight eventually left after a 90-minute delay at 8:30 am. "Air India has constituted a sub-committee and is looking into all safety-related issues within the organization, including subsidiaries", said Union Minister Suresh Prabhu.

"She is receiving treatment in hospital". "Lobo fell out of the L5 door". A source claimed that the Air India woman crew member fell off the plane while she was closing the door for the pushback when she lost control and fell from the aircraft. A team of orthopaedic specialists are taking care of her, Nanavati Hospital chief Rajendra Patankar told reporters.

The plane was operated by Air India's low-priced wing, Air India Express.

In December 2015, a technician working for Air India died after being sucked into a jet engine as the plane pushed back for take-off at Mumbai airport. The incident reportedly took place after the pilots of the aircraft had mistakenly started the engine thinking that there was a go signal.
