Brentford have appointed Thomas Frank as their new head coach.

Frank endured a turbulent spell at the Danish side, finishing 4th and 3rd in his first two seasons, but failed to take them into the Europa League group stage on both occasions.

The 45-year-old, who has been at the club since December 2016, will take charge of his first game on Saturday when Brentford host Bristol City at Griffin Park.

Smith has confirmed it was his decision to include Terry, the former Chelsea and Villa captain, on his backroom staff and insists it will be a "good fit" as he attempts to mount a promotion challenge at the Championship club. "But that is in four or five years - I'm nowhere near the finished article".

Co-director of football Phil Giles told the club website: 'Ras and I have used Dean's departure as a chance to pause and review what we need to add to the coaching staff to keep moving forward.

'Promoting Thomas to Head Coach ensures that we can keep building on the foundations that are already in place and working'.

"I have aspirations to be a manager one day", said Terry.

Ankersen added: "He has played a major role in the development of our style of play over the past couple of years and we believe he is ready for the job".
