"It's a very easy process; we set up everything", he said. Many parents believe that their child can get flu from a flu shot, 30 percent of parents believe that flu shots are a conspiracy, and 28 percent of parents believe that flu shots cause autism. Last year, the most casualties were young and elderly people. Those groups did not recommend the spray the last two flu seasons because it was not effective against some strains of influenza, but this year the organizations support the nasal spray as an alternative to the shot.

Health experts emphasize a flu shot is the best way to protect against the virus but some parents are still skeptical or misinformed about the vaccine. The child, who was healthy before getting sick with the flu, had no known health conditions, according to the department of health.

According to the CDC, there isn't a shortage of flu vaccines.

The survey has not been published in a peer-reviewed journal. The CDC recommends everyone over 6 months of age get vaccinated by the end of October each year.

Moorjani herself has encountered these sort of misconceptions in her practice.

Flu season usually starts next month, and doctors and those personally affected by it are urging people to get their flu shots. One was an unspecific strain and the other was strep throat.

"The flu isn't something you want to get or share with others", Courtney said, in the release.

And to be perfectly blunt, the vaccine, imperfect as it is, saves lives.

Last year's flu season was the deadliest in at least four decades, 80-thousand people died of the flu and its complications.

For Moorjani, the take-home message is simple. Local health officials are offering up some tips on how prevent getting the flu.

While not flawless, the best way to prevent catching one of the influenza viruses is with the seasonal flu vaccine.
