Rapper Cardi B was in Brooklyn Thursday, meeting fans and handing out free coats to children. A massive crowd waited up to four hours in the cold for the 26-year-old Bronx native, who passed out coats and sneakers at Marlboro Houses, a housing project in Gravesend, New York.

Cardi B organized the drive at the Marlboro Houses with a friend from Brooklyn in less than 24 hours.

Local wholesaler Daniels Leather donated the coats, while NY Tent Sale and TraxNYC provided shoe donations and additional sponsorship, according to Footwork Entertainment, an organizer for the event. Although she was running late due to a photo shoot, when she arrived, she happily snapped selfies and signed autographs for the young fans.

Cardi B, whose real name is Belcalis Almanzar, shot to fame previous year after her first single for Atlantic Records, Bodak Yellow, reached number one in the United States and was certified platinum.

A large crowd showed up, much to Cardi's surprise.

The rapper also said she hoped to organise something similar "in my borough next".
