Prepared Salad Recalled At Walmart, Whole Foods & Trader Joe’s

Trader Joe's has recalled salads in nine states due to concerns they could be contaminated with listeria or salmonella.

According to a news release from the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service, Kent-based Taylor Farms Northwest LLC is recalling about 276 pounds of ready-to-eat pork carnitas bowl products that contain tomatillos.

The ready-to-eat salads and bowls made with chicken were produced from October 6, 2018, through October 14, 2018.

FSIS is concerned that some of the salads may already be in consumers' refrigerators.

22-oz. plastic bags containing "simple truth, Chicken Bibimbap" and a case code number of 011110890108 on the label and use by/sell by dates of 11/2/18 through 3/12/20. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider, the FSIS says.

"Walmart's Marketside brand Fiesta Salad with Steak, 7-Eleven Bistro Southwest Style Salad with Bacon, Trader Joe's Mexicali Inspired Salad with Chili Seasoned Chicken, Mary's Harvest Southwest Chicken Wrap with Rib Meat, 365 by Whole Foods Market BBQ Style Chopped Salad with Chicken, 365 by Whole Foods Market Chicken Fajita Salad, GH Foods CA's Santa Fe Style Salad with Chicken and BBQ Style Salad Kit with White Chicken".

Eating salmonella-contaminated foods can cause salmonellosis, one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses.

Salmonellosis can cause symptoms like diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever, and it may last between four and seven days.

If you purchased any of the affected products, discard the salad or return it to any store location for a full refund.

Most people recover without treatment; most of those hospitalized suffer from severe diarrhea. According to the CDC, the infection is most likely to strike in pregnant women, newborns, adults over age 65 or those with a weakened immune system. Less commonly, people outside these risk groups are affected.

In addition, serious and sometimes fatal infections in older adults and persons with weakened immune systems. It can cause symptoms like fever, muscle aches, headaches, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance and convulsions. Listeriosis is treated with antibiotics. They should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase.
