It had been hoped that the pair would get to race each other in Saturday's feature race but Roaring Lion, the victor of three successive Group One races, has instead been entered to compete in the shorter Queen Elizabeth II Stakes thanks to the softened ground at the Berkshire course.

Capri hit the front briefly in the straight, but once Dettori unleashed Cracksman, the race was over.

As always though it would be wrong to rule out Irish trainer Aidan O'Brien having a say in the matter and he runs last year's St Leger victor Capri and the Lockinge Stakes victor Rhododendron.

"Obviously he got very distracted at Royal Ascot by the girls (fillies) coming back in from the Duke of Cambridge".

He skipped the King George, the Juddmonte International and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe. The horse will face other Gosden runners in the shape of Monarchs Glen and Maverick Wave, however the biggest threat is likely to come from Sir Michael Stoute's Crystal Ocean.

"He's an exceptional horse and every time I ride him I need to keep that in mind".

"If the same Cracksman turns up from previous year, he will be very hard to beat".

The three-year-old son of Kitten's Joy followed up a facile success in the Gr2 Dante Stakes at York in May with a good third in the Investec Derby over 12 furlongs at Epsom in June.
