Newcastle are yet to win in any competition this season and dropped to 20th in the table following a 1-0 defeat to Brighton on Saturday, which continues their worst start to a top-flight season.

"They are still good enough, in my opinion, to stay in the Premier League".

"I think some of those guys are struggling for confidence a little bit, they need a result quickly and that stadium can change".

"I can think of one game".

Problem was, we only got six on target, which although still more than the visitors managed, they got the breakthrough and our best efforts were thwarted by the opposition's goalkeeper. "And I think, because, whatever you say about Mike Ashley, he's a businessman so if he needs to send £30, £40million in January to recoup £160million still in the Premier League he will do it".

Pardew spent four years at St James' Park, and believes that Benitez has a tough job to revive his team and they need to find their confidence.

"That is something they are going to have to sit down and work out together".

"I'm not going to defend Mike Ashley or the board and I'm not going to criticise Rafa in this situation".

"It is a hard situation where he's looking, and has made it quite public that he is willing to sell the football club".

"We got into a situation in my third season at Newcastle where we really needed help in January".

"We all know it is very hard for football managers but it is also hard for owners". I said to Mike 'I think we are in big danger here, ' and he come to the fore and we signed four or five players that transformed our season.
