Judge Kerry Bensinger also order Clay to attend a counseling program and perform 20 days of community service.

"On July 25, Clay used a pickaxe to smash the star located on Hollywood Boulevard", the office wrote, adding that he surrendered to authorities the next day.

Austin Mikel Clay, the man who took a pickax to President Trump's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame over the summer, on Wednesday pleaded no contest to a charge of vandalism. That's a far cry from the maximum sentence of three years behind bars that 24-year old Clay was looking at if found guilty of the felony count of vandalism.

Between then and now a deal was struck between Jackie Lacey's office and Clay's lawyers that will also see the now self-declared vandal pay the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce $9,404.46 for the fix of the Trump star and other restitution.

Los Angeles police Lt. Karen Leong told the Los Angeles Times that after Clay smashed Trump's star, he "called police and advised he had vandalized Donald Trump's star and basically called on himself and said, 'See you soon'". Given not even a day in jail, the self-described activist was also ordered to pay $3,700 to the Hollywood Historic Trust and $700 to the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce to fix the damage done to Trump's star.

BuzzFeed noted that Trump's Hollywood star attracts its share of vandals.

Other Trump haters have defaced the star with dog poop, a backward swastika and a barbed wire wall around the star to mock Trump's plan to build a wall on the Mexico border.
