#IrishFilm: Netflix acquires Nora Twomey and Cartoon Saloon’s My Father’s Dragon

Almost 60% of Netflix members around the world enjoy kids and family content every month, so the company has unveiled new animated programming featuring films and original series.

Several big animation talents are coming to Netflix, the company announced as it unveiled a slate of animated series and films today. The show, which takes place in a mythical world, follows a warrior princess on a mission to find a trio of legendary fighters to help save the world of men and gods.

The first film, My Father's Dragon (2021), will be directed by Nora Twomey (The Secret of Kells) and written by Meg LeFauve (Inside Out).

Tomm Moore, Twomey, and Cartoon Saloon co-founder Paul Young will develop My Father's Dragon with Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn for LA-based Mockingbird Pictures.

Variety reports that Gutierrez will direct Maya and the Three-a nine-episode limited series set to release in 2021-as well as co-write and co-executive produce with Elena of Avalor's Silvia Olivas, and Moana's Jeff Ranjo will serve as head of story. Smart Wheels. It follows the adventures of kid vehicle Cory Carson as he navigates the winding roads of childhood in Bumperton Hills. Other project on the service's slate include the highly stylized CG animated feature film "The Willoughbys" from writer/director Kris Pearn ('Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs 2"); "Kid Cosmic, ' an animated series from Craig McCracken ('The Powerpuff Girls, ' "Fosters Home for Imaginary Friends"); "Trash Truck, ' an animated series from Max Keane ('Dear Basketball"); "Go! Go!"

"The programming is created to meet the tastes of every member of the family - from preschoolers to kids to parents and their children together so that families everywhere can find something that fits their unique DNA", Netflix's press release said.

Most recently, we've seen the incredible documentary, entitled The 34th, added to the Netflix roster.
