Michelle Obama who chronicled her journey to motherhood in her memoir, Becoming, revealed that she and her husband, ex-President Barack Obama, had their two children Malia and Sasha - through the in-vitro fertilisation (IVF).

"I felt like I failed because I didn't know how common miscarriages were because we don't talk about them", Obama said in the special which will run Sunday.

Obama opened up about her troubles with pregnancy in an interview on Good Morning America Friday, where the former first lady was on to speak about her upcoming memoir, Becoming.

Mrs Obama and her husband, former President Barack Obama, sought couples therapy, she also revealed for the first time in her 426-page book, which will be released on Tuesday.

'Marriage counseling for us was one of those ways where we learned how to talk out our differences, ' she told Robin.

The former first lady writes that she assumed Trump was "grandstanding" when he announced his presidential run in 2015.

She writes that their actions were "crazy and mean-spirited. its underlying bigotry and xenophobia hardly concealed".

Obama, who worked as a lawyer and hospital administrator before becoming first lady, told Roberts that it hit her at ages 34 and 35 that "the biological clock is real" and "egg production is limited". She also denounces Trump's yearslong "birther" campaign questioning her husband's citizenship, calling it bigoted and risky, "deliberately meant to stir up the wingnuts and kooks".

The former first lady said she felt "lost and alone" after suffering the miscarriage.

"What if someone with an unstable mind loaded a gun and drove to Washington?". Trump suggested Obama was not born in the US but on foreign soil _ his father was Kenyan. Although his father is Kenyan, President Obama was born in Hawaii.

Despite working to build a "phenomenal" relationship together, Michelle also admits in her book that the romance between the two nearly never happened - because she insisted that they should just be friends.

Obama launches her promotional tour on Tuesday not at a bookstore, but at Chicago's United Center, where tens of thousands of people have purchased tickets - from just under $30 to thousands of dollars - to attend the event moderated by Oprah Winfrey.

She expresses disbelief over how so many women would choose a "misogynist" over Clinton in 2016.

She also recalled how her body "buzzed with fury" after watching the now-infamous "Access Hollywood" tape - in which Trump brags about grabbing women "by the p-y" - and how she tried to "block it all out" when Trump won the election.
