The all-new Mazda3 adopts a richer interpretation of Mazda's KODO design philosophy, which embodies the essence of Japanese aesthetics.

The latest carmaker to announce a premiere at the Los Angeles Convention Center is Mazda, which on Thursday revealed the new generation Mazda3 will be on the floor of the event.

We use the plural because, as you can see in the teaser photo released with the announcement, the 2019 Mazda3 will debut simultaneously as a four-door sedan and five-door hatchback. The manufacturer states that the Mazda3 marks the beginning of a new generation of models delivering "new dimensions of driving pleasure".

Mazda did not strictly confirm the new auto will have the compression-ignition gasoline engine it's been working on, but did say it would feature next-generation SkyActiv Vehicle Architecture, which improves sound deadening to reduce noise and vibration while adding more rigidity and space in the cabin. Mazda says the new platform "enables people to make the most of their natural sense of balance", suggesting intuitive handling characteristics.

The new generation of Skyactiv engines which will be used is called X, or more officially Spark Controlled Compression Ignition (SPCCI) Skyactiv-X.
