The main screen of the Samsung foldable comes with a 4.2:3 aspect ratio and the cover a 21:9 aspect ratio. It also announced its take on the notch, with not one but three notch designs for its future devices - the Infinity U, Infinity V and Infinity O. Google is working with Samsung to help launch a device next year.

"We expect to see foldable products from several Android manufacturers", he added. Also, to make the development process easy, the company has announced a new Bixby Developer Studio.

The three new notched displays should be heading to new devices by 2019 and beyond.

Not alike: I've previously reported on the foldable smartphone rumor.

Samsung and Huawei have been beaten to the market, however, by Royole, a Chinese display making start-up, which last week unveiled a foldable Android phone with a 7.8 inch screen, priced from around US$1,300 (S$1,800). Royole said it would start filling orders late next month.

Samsung is likely to fully introduce a device for sale at the Consumer Electronics Show in January or at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona in February. Bixby could then become an alternative to Google Assistant or Amazon's Alexa, even though the Samsung platform is widely perceived as weaker than its competitors when it comes to recognizing and processing voice commands.

Moving on to one of the more immediate benefits for users across the globe, Samsung has confirmed that its assistant will gain support for five new languages within the "coming months".
