Chelsea are on the verge of qualifying for the Europa League knockout stages after winning their first three matches despite using Hazard only sparingly in the competition so far.

'I'm pleased for him (Giroud),' Sarri said in the wake of the 1-0 win on Thursday. "For his confidence I think it is very important".

"The best situation this evening is the result".

BATE had no such difficulty at the other end and the home side nearly went ahead in the 12th minute through Dzmitry Baha, but the midfielder's 25-yard strike hit the post with Kepa Arrizabalaga beaten. Sarri is likely to go all out to secure top spot before giving his younger players a chance.

"Cesc Fabregas is a great player but Kovacic gives Chelsea what Cesc can't do, and that is drive and take players out of the game from a central position". There was all the conditions to play very badly, for the cold, for the opponents, for the pitch, for everything.

Morata has scored four times in his last four Premier League appearances and Sarri thinks it best to let him recuperate rather than risk running him into the ground. I didn't like the first half.

"We moved it too slowly".

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Welbeck's replacement, had the first real opening of the game but volleyed wide from just a few yards out early in the second half.

Chelsea were producing one of their least effective performances of the season, but Barkley still came close to netting a second for his side with a 25-yard attempt which was tipped wide by Denis Scherbitsky.

"In the last match he played only for 30 minutes".

"But you always need to keep working hard in training and keep believing, keep the faith. But I don't want him to be anxious about scoring because for us he's very important". Then we managed not really very well the last 15 minutes'. "But, I don't want him to be anxious about scoring, because for us he's very important, very useful".
