You have until November 18 to download Destiny 2 for free

Video-gaming publisher Activision announced that in celebration of the PC release of Destiny 2, the company will be offering the game for free for a limited time. Noting a "lower year after year" profit (and how World of Warcraft helped them grow), Johnson explained that this happened because the "full core" has not re-engaged with the game.

Players will also have access to the original Leviathan raid and the Crucible multiplayer mode. If you're in, you're deeply engaged. "If you're not, we're hoping now is the time to work and to bring players back in and to win them back". It's the same approach, to some degree, used by massive moneymakers like "Fortnite", which earns nearly all of its money from in-game purchases.

"While Forsaken is a high-quality expansion with strong engagement and new modes of play, it did not achieve our commercial expectations", said Activision Publishing's Coddy Johnson. It really came out of Activision and Bungie working together to address community concerns post-'Destiny 2' holistically. But we'll have to wait and see whether they learnt their lesson from that...

Users will be allowed to download the game between now and November 18th and will be allowed to keep it forever.

Johnson also mentions plans to "improve the pace of innovation and cadence of in-game content" in a bid to coax lapsed Destiny 2 players back to the game and spend more money on microtransactions.
