In addition to the already-announced The Mandalorian, the service will feature another Star Wars series starring Diego Luna as Rogue One's Cassian Andor, and the small-screen Marvel Cinematic Universe will officially roll on with a series starring Hiddleston as Loki.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a 2016 movie about how the fledgling Rebel Alliance stole the top-secret plans to the Death Star so they could blow it up in Star Wars: A New Hope...and again in Return of the Jedi. Diego Luna will reprise his role as Cassian Andor in a now untitled Rogue One Prequel series to be produced for the upcoming Disney service, which has officially been named Disney Plus.

Luna said in a statement that the format would be a chance to "explore this character more deeply".

They are also including shows and movies created by other connected companies such as Pixar, Star Wars and National Geographic.

Disney+ is one of several efforts from the media giant to compete with Netflix and other streaming services in the direct-to-consumer, internet-delivered video market, bypassing traditional distributors that now provide billions of dollars in revenue to the company.

Over the past few months, Disney has teased quite an impressive slate for its new streaming service which includes a handful of original movies and television series.

CEO Bob Iger unveiled the new name during Disney's earning call yesterday, simply read as "Disney Plus".

Characters of Star Wars take part in an event held for the release of the film "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" in Disneyland Paris in Marne-la-Vallee, France, December 17, 2015.

"We aim to use the TV production capability of the combined companies (Disney and Fox) to fuel Hulu with a lot more original programming", Iger said.

That show seems to have a very "Game of Thrones" like $100 million, eight episodes per season, budget, so I would imagine that "Cassian" (let's just go ahead and name it, why don't we), will be in the same range.

Luna, who will next be seen in Netflix's Narcos: Mexico, has signed on to reprise the role of Andor. No release date was announced.

He said that he got a glimpse of the app last week while visiting BAMTech, the streaming technology company that Disney bought a majority stake in in order to launch both Disney+ and ESPN+. We'll be sure to keep you posted as more details on the project are made available.
