Have Bayern waved goodbye to Bundesliga title with Dortmund defeat?

It was Bayern Munich who dominated the ball during the opening exchanges, but they found it hard to find a way through to the Dortmund defence.

Seven points clear of third-placed Bayern Munich, Dortmund hold a four-point lead over second-placed Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Dortmund were handed the ideal opportunity to get back into the game just three minutes into the second half when Reus was brought down in the box by Neuer, and the BVB No. 11 picked himself up to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and equalise.

Lewandowski, who left Dortmund in 2014, went down looking for a penalty under what looked minimal contact from Julian Weigl but the referee waved play on.

However, Robert Lewandowski broke the deadlock for the visitors in the 26th minute with a simple finish at close range following a square pass by Serge Gnabry.

The lead, though, did not last long and Bayern were back in front on 52 minutes.

Dortmund nearly got themselves level again when Sancho's pass found Reus, who knocked the ball past Neuer only for Kimmich to make a remarkable clearance off the line.

Bayern thought they had stolen a point in the 95th minute when Lewandowski steered a super backheel past Marwin Hitz, but the goal was rightly disallowed for offside.

Throughout Dortmund's flying start to the season, critics have suggested their position atop the table was down to a kind fixture list in the campaign's opening weeks. A seven-point cushion is far from decisive at this early stage of the season, but Bayern are in a title race for the first time in years.

Dortmund created enough chances to win a handful of matches, but until Alcacer's arrival they lacked a striker as prolific as the continually reliable Lewandowski. The Poland worldwide is mostly uninvolved until Bayern get the ball into the box, when he comes alive - he scored twice from his two chances.

Mats Hummels was replaced by Niklas Sule shortly before Dortmund's second equaliser, the Bayern defender having been given a torrid time by the league leaders. His substitution was an act of mercy from Kovac.
