Imam and Zaman were hardly troubled by New Zealand's pace until Ferguson's sharp rising delivery forced Imam to retire hurt on 16.

Team management said Imam will undergo CT scans and will be monitored for the next 48 hours. "He joined the team and will remain under observation of Team Physio", the PCB tweeted.

New Zealand skipper Williamson admitted his team did not put a defendable total.

Pakistan and New Zealand are now fighting it out in the three-match ODI series and the visitors' injury woes are not ending.

New Zealand stayed faithful to the same combination which won the first one-day worldwide by 47 runs, also played in Abu Dhabi, while Pakistan brought in Faheem Ashraf for Junaid.

With the win Pakistan broke a four-year losing streak of 12 consecutive one-day internationals against the Black Caps, starting with a 3-2 defeat in the UAE in 2014.

"A bit of scrapping that got us a total", he said.

Batting first, New Zealand were restricted at 209 runs in 50 overs and in reply, Pakistan sealed the match with a seven-wicket victory and squared the series 1-1 forcing the final match to be played as a decider. "It wasn't enough on that surface". This time, there was no magic from Trent Boult, though Ferguson impressed again by taking three wickets, including a freak dismissal of Shoaib Malik, who smashed a pull shot into the shoulder of Nicholls at short leg, with the ball ballooning into the air for Ish Sodhi to take the catch.

Mohammad Hafeez stayed unbeaten on 27 and raised Pakistan's victory with a crisp boundary off Tim Southee.

Worker struggled for his 50-ball knock of 28 before he played all around to off-spinner Hafeez and was clean bowled while Afridi made its 4-73 by clean bowling Tom Latham off a sharp yorker. In his next over he deflected a straight drive to run out Williamson (one) at the non-striker's end.

Taylor, who made 80 in the first game, held one end intact and together with Nicholls ensured the innings do not finish under 200.
