The Jimmy Butler saga appears to have finally come to a close.

Minnesota has agreed to trade the disgruntled star to Philadelphia along with Justin Patton in exchange for a package that includes Robert Covington, Dario Saric, Jerryd Bayless and a 2022 second-round pick, sources tell our Shams Charania and Jon Krawczynski. The 29-year-old has been a malcontent in recent months, making his desire for a trade public and regularly lashing out against his teammates and coaches in Minnesota. He had reportedly listed the NY teams, along with the Clippers among his preferred destinations after requesting a trade. ESPN reports that Butler and the Sixers are expect to reach a deal on a long-term contract this summer.

Still, while both of them are solid players, neither of them are Butler, a game-changing wing who is capable of taking over on both ends of the floor. Moreover, Butler should bring a sense of intensity and veteran leadership that Philadelphia has lacked since last season.

Following the 2018-19 season, Butler will be an unrestricted free agent and Philadelphia had previously expressed interest in adding Butler to make up a big three with Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons. The Marquette product is a four-time All-Star, two-time All-NBA selection and four-time All-Defensive Team selection.
