The MPs letter emerged a day after Robinson was banned from using PayPal to raise funds.

The letter is signed by Tory Michael Fabricant, Labour's Chris Bryant, Ian Austin and Luciana Berger and the Lib Dems' Tom Brake, among others. He was subsequently released and the conviction quashed over procedural concerns.

Robinson, the former leader of the English Defence League, was jailed in May for contempt of court for filming defendants in a child grooming trial, threatening to ruin the prosecution's case against the men in the process.

Far-right Mr Robinson, real name Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, is said to be waiting for authorisation under the US ESTA system before making the trip to Washington to speak at an event.

PayPal said it could not comment on individual customers, but said: "We do not allow PayPal services to be used to promote hate, violence, or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory".

Online petitions calling on finance firms to sever links with him have gained thousands of signatures.

'They just don't like my opinion and want to silence me, ' he told the Press Association.

'The Government and establishment can see I have public support, they can see I have the ability to fight back'.

PayPal said: "Striking the necessary balance between upholding free expression and open dialogue and protecting principles of tolerance, diversity and respect for all people is a challenge that many companies are grappling with today".

Robinson's right-wing rhetoric has garnered a lot of support both in the United Kingdom and the U.S., but has also set him at odds with leftist activists, who have asked PayPal to cut off his account.

'We work hard to achieve the right balance and to ensure that our decisions are values-driven and not political'.

The Recorder of London later determined that the case was too complex for him to hear, and was referred to the Attorney General for a "proper and thorough" examination, likely to take place in the New Year.
