Players have received Silver Slugger Award votes at multiple positions in past years, but Martinez is the first player to win the award twice in the same season. Altuve, 28, hit.316 (169x534) with 29 doubles, 13 home runs, 61 RBI, 17 stolen bases and an.837 OPS (.386 OBP/.451 SLG) in 137 games for the Astros this season.

Abreu became the first player in White Sox history to hit 20 or more home runs in each of his first five seasons, and he joined Albert Pujols (2001-'10) and Ted Williams (1939-'42, 1946-49) as the only players in Major League Baseball history to produce 30 or more doubles and 20 or more plus home runs in each of his first five seasons.

Martinez is first player to receive two Silver Slugger Awards in one season. These are Martinez's second and third career Silver Slugger awards. At least he is cleaning up elsewhere, winning the Hank Aaron Award last month as the AL's best offensive performer.

Abreu won his second Silver Slugger Award (2014) despite the fact that he played in a career-low 128 games. He also started the All-Star Game at Nationals Park, batting cleanup as the AL's designated hitter.

J.D. Martinez had a fantastic season for the Boston Red Sox in 2018. This is the fourth time the Red Sox have featured three Silver Slugger winners in a single season, having also done so in 2005, 2011, and 2016. The MVP favorite led baseball with a.346 average and.640 slugging percentage, the first Red Sox player to accomplish that feat since Ted Williams in 1957.
