For many California wildfire evacuees, there's nothing left to return to

During a press conference to update on the fires plaguing Southern California, officials addressed the three fires raging on: the Camp Fire in Butte County as well as the Hill Fire and Woolsey Fire in Ventura County.

Many residents, including some Hollywood stars, have taken to social media to share the devastation that the inferno left in its wake. As one major freeway reopened, another was closed.

But officials warned against complacency, with winds of up to 70 miles per hour expected over the next two days.

The Los Angeles Fire Department Foundation, which supports first responders on the frontline, is also accepting donations at this time.

A quarter of a million people are under evacuation orders.

The Woolsey Fire has since been 10% contained, but firefighters are wary of an anticipated increase in winds later today.

Spot fires continued to occur late Sunday afternoon near the Malibu campus of Pepperdine University, where 3,500 students were sheltering in place.

The death toll from the wildfire has hit 29, matching that of the deadliest to hit California, a local sheriff said on Sunday.

This fire season follows a particularly deadly set of California wildfires a year ago.

Three unsafe fires are burning across the state of California, destroying thousands of homes and lives.

"The president's message attacking California and threatening to withhold aid to the victims of the cataclysmic fires is ill-informed, ill-timed and demeaning to those who are suffering as well as the men and women on the front lines", CPF President Brian Rice said in a statement.

SoCal Edison said the report was submitted out of an abundance of caution although there was no indication from fire officials that its equipment may have been involved. They said fires could spread quickly and unexpectedly.

Relief and heartache await those starting to return home to a Southern California wildlife zone.

Greg Woodcox, who led a caravan of vehicles that was overcome by flames, said he heard screams and watched a friend die as the heat blew out the vehicle's windows.

While 25-year-old singer Cyrus described herself as "one of the lucky ones" after her house - also in Malibu - went up in flames.
