In San Diego a fan disrupted the speech of Stephen Morrissey, ex-singer of The Smiths. One fan made it through, though, and appeared to accidentally make contact with Morrissey's face.

It isn't clear as to why fans struck Morrissey, but in the past, he has made controversial comments in the media regarding immigration and other contentious subjects related to the United Kingdom and the nation's politics.

TMZ reports that the singer's security team rushed him off stage while at the San Diego Symphony Hall on Saturday.

Morrissey was hit during a live stage performance over the weekend.

Morrissey left the stage and never came back.

It remains unknown what motivated the attack. "Trying anything they could do to jump onstage and touch him, or hug him", a statement attributed to Peter Katsis reads.

Aggressive fan rushed to Morrissey when he sang the famous song Every Day Is Like Sunday.

TMZ posted a short video of the attack that showed several fans rushing the stage as security fended them off. "The fan in question was certainly more aggressive in reaching out for him than most, so security had to do their job and subdue the fan".

Katsis also said in his statement that no one was arrested for the stage surge, and the singer is fit and well. The concert and the crowd were a dream night for me.
