Mr Trump replied: "I consider it an invasion". Two battled until Trump called him "a rude, bad person" and said, "CNN should be ashamed of itself". The network has reached out to the White House on the issue but has "gotten no response".

"While the suit is specific to CNN and Acosta, this could have happened to anyone", the network said.

As Jost begins to report on the White House suspending Acosta's press credentials, the aide, played by Cecily Strong, walks on set and begins nervously shuffling back and forth and pointing to Jost while looking at someone off camera.

The attacks are another chapter in Trump's drawn-out attacks on the press.

The suspension comes after a heated confrontation Wednesday between Acosta and President Donald Trump during a news conference. "The way you treat Sarah Huckabee [Sanders] is disgusting".

The CNN reporter's credentials were pulled Wednesday after his testy news-conference exchange with U.S. President Donald Trump. "When you are in the White House, this is a very sacred place to me, a very special place".

Journalists assigned to cover the White House apply for passes that allow them daily access to press areas in the West Wing.

Trump responded: "What a stupid question that is". He said that "I can do something fantastic, and they make it look not good".

On Wednesday, Trump asked Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign.

One video that is circulating widely appears to have doctored Mr Acosta's movements. She said that "on the campaign trail, you called yourself a nationalist". While appearing in a Mother's Day interview this year, Sanders suggested dealing with Acosta was like dealing with her children: they both whined and repeatedly asked the same questions. You and I have a difference of opinion.

Trump has been highly critical of Acosta in the past, clashing with the CNN reporter on multiple occassions.

Waving his finger, Mr Trump berated him.

"The question is: did the reporter make contact or not?"

Mar 5, 2018. Earlier this year, Acosta complained that Sanders didn't give him enough opportunities to ask questions.
