A college basketballer studying, no joke, criminal justice has delivered the dirtiest hit of the season. Late in the second half, Nichols' Nate Tenaglia knocked down an open corner 3.

Video is making the rounds on social media of a Division III player taking a cheap shot at his opponent following a three-point shot attempt in a game played Tuesday. "Fitchburg State does not tolerate behavior that violates those standards", the statement continued.

Fitchburg State basketball player Kewan Platt found himself in the headlines for all of the wrong reasons. "On behalf of the MASCAC and Fitchburg State, we apologise to the Nichols College student-athlete, the team and institution".

Tenaglia went down in pain, but according to the school's play-by-play, Platt was not called for a foul on the play. Platt graduated from Charlestown High School in 2016 and was a 1,000-point scorer and team MVP during his senior year.

It's unclear what provoked Platt because neither Fitchburg State coach Titus Manderson nor athletic department spokeswoman Bettiann Michalik immediately returned messages left by Yahoo Sports. We are proud of the way our student-athletes handled the incident and that they did not allow it to escalate. The case is being reviewed at the student conduct level for consideration of further sanctions. "The player involved has been indefinitely suspended from the team and barred from campus, effective immediately". The MASCAC has also vacated his player of the week award. His behaviour goes against the MASCAC's mission which includes good sportsmanship.
