And even head judge Simon Cowell was seen questioning whether she was OK as she lay on her back at the end of her performance, in a puff of smoke.

The singer says the "unbalanced negativity" towards her by the "tabloid press" has been "shocking".

The track she performed "Love Made Me Do It" is about her past relationships and co-written by Girls Aloud bandmate, Nicola Roberts. "This level of relentless abuse should not be tolerated in any walk of life".

The star initially took a career break to "save her sanity" and now it looks like the reaction to her comeback stage performance could send her into retirement as insiders reveal the star has been left "devastated" by the reaction.

She appeared to address one particular article, which suggested she had watched it on repeat because she couldn't "work out why everyone hated it".

Singer Cheryl's performance on "X Factor" has sparked complaints to watchdog Ofcom from viewers, who deemed her set "too raunchy".

Her Twitter post has had more than 4,000 likes since it was published at around 5.20pm on Tuesday.

Fans also tweeted their support for her.

Speaking to Radio 1's Nick Grimshaw she said having a baby had changed her perspective, adding: "Things that might have bothered you before or might have been a problem before, become less relevant to you".
