However, it said, the illegal content was discovered during a routine audit.

Meanwhile, Tumblr Android app is available at Google Play Store. Tumblr, sadly, has become notorious exactly for that type of content that would immediately get you banned on Facebook and Twitter.

Standard practice at Tumblr is to scan every image a user uploads to the site against a national database of known child pornography images.

The company released a vague statement, explaining it was "still working on the issue with the iOS app". Soon after it was launched, both the operating system platforms had numerous third-party apps that would allow the users to get new stickers.

However, many of them couldn't find the app within Apple's store.

The Tumblr app has been removed from the iOS App Store, with the company confirming that it is working on resolving an issue with it.

"We're committed to helping build a safe online environment for all users, and we have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to media featuring child sexual exploitation and abuse", it said in its statement. Evidently all images uploaded to Tumblr are run against a database, with any images that match being automatically blocked. Early this year, Apple pulled the popular secure messaging app Telegram from the App Store because it was being used to share child pornography. South Korea has also asked it to do a better job of moderating adult content on the service.

WABetaInfo says that the reasons Apple is taking this decision to remove WhatsApp Sticker apps is that there are many apps with similar behaviour on the app store, many apps with a similar design, and, the apps require WhatsApp to be installed when App Store guidelines instruct apps should not require other apps. Now, the reason for its disappearance has been revealed: the discovery of child pornography on the platform.
