Jake Gyllenhaal set to swing into Spider-Man as villain Mysterio

Jake announced the news after joining Instagram!

Gyllenhaal posted the following video offering, "I just realized I'm not playing Spider-Man".

Besides the fact that Gyllenhaal will now be treating his devoted fans to photos of his everyday life, the post seems to confirm something that's been the subject of heated speculation for months - his reported role in the upcoming follow-up to Marvel's "Spider-Man: Homecoming".

Within hours of posting the video, the clip received hundreds of thousands of views.

The actor continued to fuel rumors he would be playing the comic book baddie when he was spotted over the summer in London, where the movie is being filmed. The alter-ego of Quentin Beck, Mysterio a special effects wizard and stunt man who decides to give up on his Hollywood ambitions and put his skills to use as a supervillain.

Tom Holland also returns for The Avengers 4 on May 3, 2019.
