While he might only be seven-months-old, Prince Louis is already learning a key skill: the royal wave.Kate Middleton made the adorable revelation on Wednesday, December 5, while speaking to a well-wisher during a walkabout at the RAF Akrotiri base in Cyprus.

They also handed out presents from family members they met at a party they hosted last night at Kensington Palace.

During the event, Kate told the invited wives, partners, grandparents and children: "Not only are we grateful for you coming here to join our party, but also for the sacrifices you make on a daily basis on behalf of the nation".

Prince William said that his experience in the armed forces, most recently as an RAF search and rescue pilot, meant "we both know a bit of what it feels like". "The absence of people you love must be especially hard at this time of year or at those special family moments".

Speaking in front of a crowd of RAF personnel and soldiers from the 2 Mercian Regiment, Prince William said: "As we approach Christmas, Catherine and I feel strongly that praise for your work and recognition of your sacrifices is exactly what is due to you all".

"Yesterday they were all talking about what we do at the party and I guess all the families are proud of what we do and serving".

The British military base in Cyprus is now used for both reconnaissance and bombing missions against ISIS in Syria and Iraq.

Children's entertainer George Whitefield, who put on the event, said Prince William 'saw I had some in my hand and he had a little mischievous nod and wink and looked like he wanted one to throw back at us'. The 92-year-old monarch looked her typical elegant self in the glittering gown, which featured delicate floral patterns and tiers of lace.

William and Kate met a boy whose dad is in Cyprus, while his mum posted to Afghanistan. "Or maybe that should be flexitarian", she said. They've got an important job to do and they don't have time to worry about their son'.

He said about William and Kate: "For them to come out here and recognise the service, it goes to show that the work the men and women are doing is still valued".
