U.S. comedian and actor Kevin Hart announced on Tuesday that he would be hosting the 91st Academy Awards in February.

"I am so happy to say that day has finally come for me to host the Oscars".

The announcement came hours after trade publication The Hollywood Reporter posted a story calling the Oscars host position "the least wanted job in Hollywood".

"To be able to join the legendary list of hosts that have graced that stage is unbelievable". I want to thank my family/friends/fans who have supported me all this time...

Hart, 39, may have a tough job ahead of him, as ratings for the Oscars have declined in recent years. "With what I've done and the progress I've made in my career, that's definitely the next major step, I feel, for a comedian", Kevin said on Live!

Twitter wasn't really sold on the idea of Kevin hosting the awards and some people said he wasn't "even funny".

It looks like the 2019 Oscars has officially found a host! "I appreciate the @TheAcademy for the opportunity ....now it's time to rise to the occasion".

The Academy retweeted Hart's message, adding, "Welcome to the family".

Comedian Chris Rock is 100 percent here for next year's Academy Awards.

Really, the only thing surprising about any of this is that it took this long for Kevin Hart to score the gig of hosting the Oscars ceremony.

The Oscars experienced an all-time ratings low past year and has announced numerous changes for the February 24 ceremony. Instead, six to eight categories will be announced during commercial breaks, with edited excerpts from the acceptance speeches airing later in the broadcast.
