The Argentinian has won the Ballon d'Or five times though was fifth when the awards were announced this week. "They're also excellent players".

Asked how he feels about the Blaugrana talisman holding that status recently, the 78-year-old claimed that no player with "one skill" should be compared to him. "He had bad luck because the team didn't win the World Cup and he was branded", Pele told the daily Folha de Sao Paulo.

While the legendary forward never played in Europe, his global accolades remain unparalleled to date - as the only player to have won three FIFA World Cups: 1958, 1962 and 1970.

The Brazilian then appears to take a dig on Messi in the interview when he says, "How can you make a comparison between a guy who heads the ball well, shoots with the left, shoots with the right. and another who only shoots with one leg, only has one skill, doesn't head the ball well?" "To compare with Pele, it has to be someone who shoots well with the left, shoots well with the right, and scores headers" he said.

One of the top players in world football, PSG star Neymar has hinted at a Premier League in future and believes every great player has to play in England's top flight.

In the same interview, Pele also said Argentinian World Cup victor Maradona was "much better" than his compatriot Messi - although the Brazilian has been on record as previously saying that even Maradona could not compare in the pantheon of all-time greats, due to the same apparent flaws as Messi.
