Hasenhuttl will be supported at Southampton by existing first-team assistant coach Kelvin Davis, who was in charge of the team against Tottenham, as well as head of goalkeeping Dave Watson and head of sports science Alek Gross.

Tottenham bounced back from their derby defeat against Arsenal to sweep aside struggling Southampton 3-1 yesterday morning (Singapore time), showing new Saints boss Ralph Hasenhuettl the size of the task he faces.

Southampton's board believe former RB Leipzig and Ingoldstadt boss Hasenhuttl's appointment represents a return to the club's values of a progressive, upwardly-mobile and demanding manager.

"We have a very good youth academy in this club and it's a goal for us to bring them forward again", said Hasenhuttl.

The Austrian has been appointed St Mary's manager on a two-and-a-half year deal, replacing Mark Hughes.

"When I left Leipzig I was thinking about my next step, and I want to stand in front of a new team, new language, to get developed personally and in my view of football, that's why I made the decision to come to Southampton".

"Spurs have not had a Premier League draw in their last 19 games and I feel they will take maximum points at the King Power from an entertaining clash in the late kick-off on Saturday", Owen told BetVictor.

The engaging Hasenhuttl, who joked that his surname translates into English as "rabbit hutch", fired a word of warning that he will ship out any players not ready for hard work.

"This manager change offers us a fresh start and, very quickly, Ralph emerged as our ideal candidate".

He will lead the Saints for the first time as they travel to Cardiff on Saturday, looking for the win that would take them out of the relegation zone. "I think he set marks in Germany with his kind of football and that really influenced my style, absolutely". If they like to go this way with us, they are invited.

'Last year I had a fantastic Champions League team, we were on a very high technical level.
