Brandon Mebane, a defensive tackle for the Los Angeles Chargers announced on Wednesday that his 7-week-old daughter Makenna died on Thursday, January 3rd after battling a defective heart condition, according to ESPN.

"You know, it's been a tough year, period, but she would want me to be here doing my job", Mebane said.

The rest of the Mebane family will remain in Los Angeles as they continue to heal.

The Chargers and Mebane didn't need any more motivation going into their matchup with the Patriots, but playing with this emotional pain will undoubtedly push Mebane and the Chargers to win in her memory. "I'm just happy I'm still able to play this game, so [I'm doing] pretty good".

The defensive tackle had missed four games this season so he could be with his daughter who was receiving treatment. "She kept having bleeds from the stomach, and then when they tried to feed her, it wasn't good for her liver". "Just trying to take one day at a time. Still pray. We're just taking it just one day at a time".
