The Latin star was riding his motorcycle in San Juan at 5:30 a.m. when he was shot eight times, reports El Vocero newspaper.

The rising artist was only 24. He was taken to the Medican Center of Rio Piedras, where he was later pronounced dead.

An investigation into his murder is underway.

Fret's manager, Eduardo Rodriguez, confirmed the unfortunate news and said that people must unite in these hard times.

'His passion was music, and still had a lot to do. This violence must stop. "There are no words that describe the feeling we have and the pain that causes us to know that a person with so many has to go".

Kevin was often described as Latin Trap's first openly gay artist.

The singer, who is from Puerto Rico, stepped into the spotlight less than a year ago with the release of "Soy Asi".

According to police, the murder is the 22nd homicide in Puerto Rico in 2019.

He added: "We must all unite in these hard times, and ask for much peace for our beloved Puerto Rico".

"I'm a person that doesn't care what anybody has to say", he told online magazine Paper a year ago. An FBI official recently declared that the island is facing a "crisis of violence".
